Local businesses and retailers came together to donate gifts, sell raffle tickets, and encourage shoppers to not only support the great cause that is GOSH, but also bask in the sun and have a great time.
Marketing agency OnBrand offered their services to Baytree, agreeing to organise the event as a form of in-kind sponsorship – a gesture that really raised everyone’s spirits in the wake of recent atrocities in the UK.
“It was important to do something positive,” said Centre Manager, Daniel Foley, “for our retailers, for the locals, and of course for Great Ormond Street.”
Event Manager Jody Medland was hugely encouraged by the level of support in Brentwood. “I spent time speaking to every retailer in Baytree Centre, as well as several others up and down the High Street, and it was great to see so many people wanting to get involved. It really did help make a special day.”
On the day, the centre boasted an impressive range of entertainment – from a central raffle that was backed by numerous retailers, to a handful of pop-up shops – including a wooden pen filled with walking balloon-animals, an organic milkshake stand, fashion retailers and local publishers running origami workshops.
There was even a good dose of live music as up-and-coming artist Rozen Child played four “mini-gigs” throughout the day. The crowd watched in amazement as he asked for members of the audience to throw random words at him, which he swiftly turned into a host of original songs.
Local jeweller Heart of Gold ran a good old-fashioned “Guess the Value” competition, where participants had to guess the true value of a unique ring, and Better Gym ran live exercise challenges for passers-by. The 8-minute plank was a particularly impressive highlight, even though it was performed by a member of staff.
As if that wasn’t enough, the twin brothers of Torte Cake Art brought a host of culinary delights, boasting elaborate cakes such as orange strawberry cake, lemon meringue pies, kiwi and mango cake, pina colada cake, salted dolce de leche and of course chocolate carrot cake.
One Final Push
The aim for the event was to raise £1,000 in donations, and with £805.54 raised so far, they are incredibly close. The good news is there is still 2 weeks to help them reach their goal, which can be done by contributing via the following link: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/baytree
