Residents and visitors to the borough can kick-start their Christmas shopping by shopping locally and support Small Business Saturday, on 7th December, the busiest shopping day of the year.
Small Business Saturday, the first of its kind in the UK, is about encouraging shoppers to support small businesses, and some shops in the borough provided entertainment and festive refreshments, supported by the Renaissance Group. Sponsored events included:
- Visit from Father Christmas
- Live music on Crown Street and Ingatestone
- Street magic from award-winning magician, Oliver Ward, through the town centre
- Children’s rides and light refreshments in Shenfield
- Children’s festive activities along Ongar Road
Renaissance Group Chair, Clive Othen, said:
“Small Business Saturday is a great way for Brentwood to show what it has to offer and to provide some festivity in the run up to Christmas. The borough has a wealth of small and independent businesses, and this is a chance to shine the spotlight on them. Events like these encourage people to shop locally and to see what is on offer.”
Lin Heath, owner of French Quarter in Crown Street, said:
“This campaign is a great opportunity for small businesses to emphasise the importance of shopping in their high street and keeping money in the local economy.
“We had a good day, with great entertainment that people enjoyed whilst shopping.”
